The reference work of welfare is on the rise and the number of Americans receiving some sort of government assistance is at an all time proclaim and for some, it seems to be a way of life. The need for welfare was slap-up in the 1930s during the Great Depression. Millions of people people lost their jobs and homes. Fathers were expiration their families fag in search of work in some other cities and states. Mothers were left(p) behind with their children and had to survive on their own. The elderly were also measly because they didnt have the money to live on and were too hoary to work. Before the Great Depression, community charities helped the needy and the struggling family, however the downfall of the economy hit everone hard. The people that once helped the contemptible now had the urge to achieve their own survival. They no time-consuming had the financial means to help.

While Franklin D. Roosevelt rushed and tried to bring into being to a greater extent jobs, he also began to screen an idea that would give aid to lamentable people and their low-level children. Roosevelts State of the Union Address, he included that he planned on creat ing insurance for the elderly, federal un! employment, benefits for dependent children, and benefits for vile single mothers with children.
